The Feel It Real technique is the direct application of that principle — generating the genuine felt sense of your wish already fulfilled, as if it were happening right now. Not visualizing it as a movie you are watching. Not hoping it will feel real one day. Feeling it as real, bodily, now.
Why Feeling — Not Thinking — Is the Mechanism
Neville distinguished sharply between intellectual knowing and felt knowing. You can know intellectually that you are financially free, loved, healthy, or successful — and still feel, at the deeper level where behavior originates, that you are not. The subconscious responds to feeling, not to logic. An affirmation said without feeling is a thought. The same affirmation felt as true — deeply, bodily, convincingly — is an impression on the subconscious that begins to shape reality.
This is why two people can say the same affirmation and get different results. One is reciting words. The other is generating the felt state. The felt state is the only ingredient the subconscious registers.
The Feel It Real Practice: Step by Step
- Choose one specific scene.Not a montage — a single specific scene that implies your wish is already fulfilled. "Receiving the call that I got the job." "Looking at my bank account and seeing the number I want." "Waking up in my new home." The scene should be after the desire has arrived, not the moment of receiving it.
- Enter a relaxed state.Sit or lie comfortably. Close your eyes. Take several slow breaths until your body genuinely relaxes and your mind quiets. The relaxed state reduces the critical mind's resistance and opens subconscious receptivity.
- Step into the scene. Do not watch it from the outside. Be in it. First person. Present tense. What do you see? What do you hear? Who is there? What are you doing?
- Generate the feeling. This is the essential step. What does it feel like to be in this scene? Find the specific emotions — gratitude, relief, joy, pride, peace, excitement. Let them arise in your body as if the scene is genuinely happening. If you feel nothing at first, start smaller: what would a tiny corner of that feeling feel like?
- Sustain it. Hold the scene and the feeling for as long as you can — ideally 5–10 minutes. Each time the mind wanders, gently return. The duration of the felt impression is what determines its depth.
- Release with gratitude. When you conclude the session, release the scene with a genuine sense of gratitude — as though it has already been received. Then return to your day without obsessive monitoring.

The most common obstacles to genuine felt experience:
- Trying too hard. Forcing feeling produces tension, not feeling. The state you are reaching for is relaxed, natural, open — not strained.
- Choosing too big a leap. If the desired scene feels completely unbelievable, the feeling will not generate. Use bridge scenes — smaller scenes that are more emotionally accessible, incrementally moving toward the end state.
- Watching instead of being. The moment you are watching yourself in the scene rather than inhabiting it, you are one step removed from the felt experience. Keep returning to first-person present-tense embodiment.
- Abandoning the practice before the shift happens. The feeling often does not arise in the first 30 seconds. Stay with the scene, gently and persistently, until something real begins to stir.
Combining Feel It Real With SATS
Neville's most powerful recommendation was to combine the Feel It Real technique with SATS— practicing the felt scene in the hypnagogic state as you fall asleep. In this state, the critical mind's resistance is at its lowest and the subconscious is most receptive. The felt impression made in SATS is, in Neville's teaching, the most effective of all.
